Little Worlds. Miniatures from the Prints and Drawings RoomReturn
Miniature painting is a genre in its own right, traditionally situated between drawing and painting. It can be seen as directly descended from the art of illumination, used in the Middle Ages to illustrate the margins of illuminated manuscripts. It was in this light that Strasbourg productions were presented on the walls of the Musée de l'Oeuvre Notre Dame at the time of its opening. For conservation reasons, these miniatures have since joined the reserves of the Cabinet des Estampes et des Dessins. Now, for the space of three months, they are rejoining their original collection.
